TAKAS is the debut album by the duo Tamsaulė and Donis — a confluence of shared creative paths flowing into a refined soundscape of calm ethno-electronica. It is an immersive and exploratory journey through Baltic sonorities, offering a quietly surprising listening experience. Both artists are well-established creators with deep, long-standing experience in ethnomusicology and original composition, here revealed through mutual trust and artistic openness.
Tamsaulė’s creative path began with classical piano and acoustic songwriting, gradually evolving toward explorations of synthesizers, voice, and environmental sound textures. Eglė draws inspiration both from the roots of Lithuanian archaic culture and from nature itself — the sonic environment in which her original lyrics and melodies take shape.
Donatas Bielkauskas (Donis) began his musical journey in 1994 with the amber ambient project Wejdas. From his earliest works, a distinct fusion of ethnic music and experimental electronics emerged — a synthesis that continues to define his oeuvre to this day. Numerous creative transformations followed through projects such as Donis, Tykumos, Gyvata, Esatis, Žemyna, Tabalai, Kūlgrinda, and others. Alongside these, he has composed music for stage productions and worked extensively on sound recordings with folk bands.
The album TAKAS unites the creative worlds of Tamsaulė and Donatas Bielkauskas within gentle, multi-layered electronic spaces whose vibrations feel almost translucent. At the same time, all eight compositions are rhythmically driven. Their contrasting sonic qualities range from atmospherically dreamlike and deeply organic to dark ambient and analog electronics infused with echoes of ancient folklore. The instrumentation remains minimalist and balanced, while the melodies are simple and repetitive, emphasizing the emotional resonance of the lyrics.
