“UKA” is a journey on the inner path of Baltic Eternity – Prābutiskan – towards the sanctuary of Rāmawa. The title refers to the Prussian sky-god, Ukapirms, “the most-first,” highest of the Baltic gods.
Ukapirms is a secret name of the god Dēiws, corresponding to the proto-Indo-European Deiwos, the Shining One. Sometimes this name is understood as the Lituanian word “auka” (English: “place of sacrifice/sacred place”), which actually corresponds to “alka” – phonetically both are very close. Ukapirms is a many-faceted god, and he manifests through numerous characters and mysteries.
“UKA”’s eight songs trace these manifestations through the wheel of the year, beginning with “Kliptinas Kalēndas,” (English: “A Secret Yule”), and continuing in an eternal circle through equinoxes and solstices, dreams, riddles, and desolate locations. All are places where Ukapirms reveals himself in myriad forms.
ROMOWE RIKOITO has tread this path since 1995, and on this new album they incorporate the dreamlike and hallucinatory sounds of 1980s electronics into their unique Baltic Prussian neofolk. “UKA” is a continuation of the mysteries explored on their previous albums, “Nawamār” (2016) and “Undēina” (2014).
The album is released in collaboration by Dangus and Aetheric Recordings.
