This is a concept album exploring the ecologic connections between an industrial seaport city and its surrounding natural habitat. The concept develops in two parts, with the two discs each containing 42 minutes of music. The first disc presents recordings of the Klaipėda industrial area, which are dark and electronic, while the second disc flows in brighter ethno-ambient soundscapes.
Together, the two album poles represent many years of Donatas’ activities and the different spheres of his musical creations. In this way, the album as a whole becomes a solid amalgamation of the composer’s various experiences.
The album’s unique structure is intended to give the listener multiple ways to listen. One can program selections from both parts to their own liking, or listen to a random mixture of songs from both halves. And if one is ambitious and has two sound systems, both discs can be played at once for a whole new experience!
Mirštantis. Miestas. Gyvenimui is also a unique broader project, that is being presented as art video installations and live performances. Ultimately, we hope that this great music will bring about more meaningful dialogue and ideas regarding ways for our industrial societies to co-exist with Nature.
Donatas Bielkauskas is known for many unusual electronic ethno-music projects, such as DONIS and d.n.s. This is the first release under his given name.
